Through two of his video works we delve deeper into the oeuvre of contemporary artist and independent researcher Lawrence Abu Hamdan. Living and working in between Lebanon and the UK, Hamdan focuses on sound and its effects on human rights. In Rubber Coated Steel (22’,2016) the gunshot sounds of rubber bullets are used to find evidence of their lethal use by Israeli soldiers towards two minors in occupied West Bank. In his recent mid-length Diary of a Sky (45’, 2024) he collected over 800 recordings of Israeli drones and planes above Lebanon, violating the country’s airspace. A symphony of violence to raise fear.
