The selection for the European competition consists of 42 films made by makers from all over Europe. The highly rated films are eligible for Best European Short in the fiction, documentary and animation categories. The films of the European Competition are divided into a number of film blocks, put together based on overlapping themes. The winner in the fiction, documentary and animation categories will qualify for the Oscars.
